"LIL’ SNICK"
Far from home, I came upon this shot while traveling around Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, and it would seem I wasn’t the only visitor from further south east along the shores of Georgian Bay. The Lil’ Snick is one of the fishing tugs that were synonymous with commercial fishing in the early 20th century in the Great Lakes. It’s one of the few remaining, steel hulled fishing vessels of this style that still provides the popular whitefish to waterfront restaurants along the Georgian Bay shore. It was a moody, overcast day, and yet this floating piece of history seemed to almost pose for me at this unassuming, public dock. I used the sharp, angular lines of the docks to make her the centre of attention in this composition.
